Silk Screen vs. Resist: Catching Issues Early to Safeguard PCB Quality

In PCB manufacturing, ensuring data integrity across all layers is critical to delivering high-quality results. During a recent pre-production check, our team proactively identified and resolved an overlap between resist data and silk screen text—an issue that could have led to unreadable markings and downstream complications.

This early intervention highlights our commitment to precision and our robust data validation processes that help prevent production delays and maintain manufacturing excellence.

Our Challenge: Silk Screen vs. Resist Conflict

While reviewing PCB data submitted by a customer, our team identified an overlap between silk screen text and solder resist openings. If left unaddressed, this issue could have caused critical information—such as part numbers or polarity marks—to be partially cut off or completely erased during the resist process.

By catching this early, we prevented potential assembly errors and downstream complications, showcasing our commitment to thorough data validation and high manufacturing standards.

Our Approach: Data Checks & Customer Collaboration

Here at PCB Flash, we perform rigorous data checks using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) before PCB production begins.
During one of these reviews, our team identified an overlap between silk screen text and solder resist openings. We promptly contacted the customer and clearly explained:

       • Which portions of the silk screen were affected
       • The potential defects if production proceeded without correction

We requested a revision to the design data, and the customer quickly responded with minor adjustments to the text placement.
Thanks to their swift action and our proactive approach, the project moved smoothly into the manufacturing phase—demonstrating our commitment to precision and collaboration.

Our Result: Readable Markings, Reliable Output

After the correction, the silk screen text was printed clearly, with part numbers and markers easily readable. The customer shared their appreciation, noting, “If we had discovered this after production, it would have required rework or manual fixes. We’re really grateful for the early notice.”
